The Ethertest Ethernet LAN analyzer ($2995) lets you measure network performance and analyze traffic patterns. From Frontline Test Equipment (Oak Brook, IL), Ethertest runs on most 386-based PC-compatible desktops or notebooks, has a mouse-driven interface, and comes with an on-line tutor and a troubleshooting guide. You can choose from among three network adapters: a PCMCIA interface, a parallel-port device supporting standard and enhanced parallel ports, or an ISA-compatible half-slot card. Ethertest supports TCP/IP, IPX, NetBIOS, OSI, Banyan Vines, 3Com, 3+Open, and AppleTalk protocols.
