Volume Manager carves physical disks (disk01, disk02, disk03) into subdisks (disk01-01,
disk02-03, etc.). These subdisks can then be combined into a volume that spans multiple physical drives (payroll). You can add or remove subdisks without altering existing data, and the file system remains mounted and available.
