I agree with Nick Baran's Commentary ("Stop, Look, and Listen!," August). Billions of dollars are going to be wasted as companies try to launch poorly considered information services. Forget the notion that people will pay to receive information. Look instead at industry models where senders carry the brunt of the costs, such as advertising-driven media like TV and radio broadcasting or newspaper and magazine publishing. We need new industry models that support distribution of digital information from paying senders. Invest those billions of dollars, but in services that we as customers want and can afford.
