CompuServe has been in Europe since 1990. It operates across most of Europe and offers localized forums and services in English, French, and German. CompuServe offers a third-party software package called Voice E-mail. This can be downloaded for $29. Provided the person to whom you send E-mail also has the software and a suitable sound card and microphone, you can converse via voice.

Subscribers: 350,000.
Charges: $9.95 per month for 5 hours of access and $2.50 for each additional hour in all European countries.
Access: 44 nodes across Europe, with 28.8-Kbps access in major European cities, but the bulk of its access is 14.4 Kbps.
