February 1996 / International Features / An On-Line Battle for Turf / Europe Online

Europe Online began during December 1995 in France, Germany, and the U.K. It will offer localized access software, forums, shopping facilities, and professional services. Users are allowed to explore other countries' services. The company also plans to have a section covering international issues in English. Full Internet access will be provided from the beginning.


Charges: Prices have not been finalized at press time, but the basic fees are expected to be around DM 15 per month. There will be free areas as well as premium services.

Access: Europe Online intends to offer local access to 80 percent of the population of France, Germany, and the U.K. Access speed will be between 14.4 and 9.6 Kbps at starting time. During this year, 28.8-Kbps access will be provided.
