C++ compilers perform differently depending on the code model. Microsoft
Visual C++ 4.0 is fastest in the algorithm-based Native-Mode BYTEmark tests. Borland C++ 4.53 is tops in compiling two scripts written in the public-domain J language, a code flow that is less localized. Indexes are based on the performance of a 90-MHz Dell XPS P90 Pentium system (which scores a 1.0 in all the tests).
