Providing a single IP address to access a pool of Web servers, the Internet Server Dispatcher is a routing device that lets multiple servers increase Web-site capacity. It has several Ethernet ports, one of which connects to the Internet, while the other ports connect to any number of additional servers. In addition, the Internet Server Dispatcher serves as a monitor of incoming traffic, enhancing system security by controlling entry into the Web site as well as providing facilities for the Web manager to follow logged-on traffic leads.
