Display a digital font at a low resolution, and you get misshapen letters with stair-step edges. The neatest fix is called antialiasing, where selected edge pixels are rendered in shades of gray. Windows 95 Plus can do this for TrueType fonts if your video is able to support at least 6 4,000 colors. The new Adobe Type Manager Deluxe (for use with all platforms) performs font smoothing for Type 1 even on a 256-color display.
