ArticlesVideoconferencing System for LANs

September 1996 / International What's New / Videoconferencing System for LANs
Rainer Mauth

The Armada Escort 50 system gives you the choice of full-motion videoconferencing via either your LAN or an on-board ISDN interface. With support for video rates up to 384 Kbps, the codec delivers good video quality and provides application sharing and an electronic whiteboard. The board requires only one PCI slot and comes with an ISDN interface, a digital video camera, an audio adapter, and a telephone handset.

The Armada Escort 50 requires a DCI-compliant PCI-SVGA card. In a LAN environment, the system runs with most Ethernet, Token Ring, and ATM adapters. It allows for the bundling of B channels on ISDN connections, achieving data rates of 128 Kbps, and it supports the Euro-ISDN protocol.

Achieving a maximum resolution of 352 by 288 pixels with up to 20 (on a LAN) or 15 frames per second, the Armada Escort provides sufficient quality for collaborative work, even when your LAN is crowded with routine traffic.
