Articles3-D Virtual Joystick

September 1996 / International What's New / 3-D Virtual Joystick

With no base or cables, the Owl Wireless 3-D Virtual Joystick from Pegasus Technologies adds a new dimension to playing 3-D computer games. The Virtual Joystick comprises two components: the Owl ring-like transmitter, which has two buttons for missile firing or other functions; and the Ring Holder, a hand-held grip into which the transmitter clips. The Virtual Joystick uses ultrasonic and infrared signals to communicate with the L-shaped receiver, which sits on top of the monitor and p lugs into the standard serial port. The Virtual Joystick requires an IBM-compatible PC, Windows 3.1 or 95, and a VGA display adapter. It supports many of the existing 2-D and 3-D games, such as Doom, Descent, Dark Forces, Hexen, and Duke Nukem.
