ArticlesInfrastructure Improvements

October 1996 / International Features / Europe's Internet Infrastructure / Infrastructure Improvements

While many national Internet backbones already have 34-Mbps links, and there are some 34-Mbps links between one or two European countries, a pan-European 34-Mbps highway does not exist -- yet. Unisource has announced plans to link Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, the Netherlands, and the U.S. at this speed. EuropaNET is developing a new pan-European 34-Mbps backbone that is primarily for resea rch but will pave the way for development of higher-speed services across the Union. To make for better throughput to the United States, EUnet, Pipex/UUNET, and EBONE are adding a 34-Mbps link.
