ArticlesISDN-Based Total Comm Package

October 1996 / International What's New / ISDN-Based Total Comm Package
Rainer Mauth

IView is a comprehensive ISDN communications solution. It features videoconferencing software, a digital camera, an answering machine, and application-sharing capability, plus it supports MPEG playback in hardware. IView includes an external handset that performs like an ISDN phone and contains a sound card.

The ISDN PCI card offers standard H.320 videoconferencing, deploying two B channels transmitting at 15 frames per second. The system can also operate with ISDN videoconferencing systems that use only one B channel. In conference with another IView board, you not only can share applications but can also simultaneously transfer files. In this situation the system uses one B channel for audio transmission and the other one for video and data. It is also possible to connect a camcorder or a video recorder via a second camera socket.

The system supports Eurofile transfer, fax group 3 and 4 protocols, V.110-compliant bit rate adaptation, as well as CAPI version 1.1. Support for CAPI 2.0., Siemens says, will come later in the year.
