Although cable TV networks in continental Europe tend to be based on one-way coaxial cabling that can't be deployed in interactive services, results of the first European commercially available interactive service over cable are surprising. "Ninety-eight percent of residential users of our Cybercable service use the Internet," says Pierre Bouriez, development director of Lyonaise Communications in Paris, France's largest cable TV provider. He adds: "They log on for an hour and 40 minutes every day, as opposed to the 10 hours per month the typical Internet user spends over telephone lines."
