ArticlesMultiple Point-to-Point Wireless Modem

February 1997 / International What's New / Multiple Point-to-Point Wireless Modem

3J Technology now offers a wireless modem. The device utilizes direct sequence spread spectrum (DSSS) radio-frequency technology and operates in the 902- to 928-MHz ISM band. The unit can be configured as a DCE for connection to a PC or as a DTE for connection to an external modem or printer. Data transfer rates are 14.4 Kbps and above. One RF modem can establish a radio link with one other modem in a virtually transparent RS-232 link. As many as 10 channels are available, and a maximum of 10 point-to -point links can be established at any one time. In master mode, the modem selects the clearest RF channel based on the average received signal strength indicator (RSSI) value of each channel. The synchronous half-duplex packet data rate i s 85.33 Kbps.
