ArticlesFinnish Telco Adds Internet Telephony

May 1997 / International Bits / Internet Telephony / Finnish Telco Adds Internet Telephony

Telecom Finland is the first telecommunications carrier in Europe backing Internet telephony. The country's largest telecommunications operator has launched a range of voice-over-the-Internet services that include a user location and address server , an on-line phone directory, Web integration and registration, voice mail, shared whiteboards, and a call-billing system.

"Our target is to encourage business users to build new, added-value applications based on these new Internet-telephony services," says Mika Uusitalo, head of the MediaLab at Telecom Finland. The national postal service has already implemented a call center.
