ArticlesZipping Through ZIP Files

May 1997 / International What's New / Zipping Through ZIP Files
Rainer Mauth

ZipBack Pro for Windows 95 and NT provides an easier way to work with ZIP files. The program also simplifies backing up and e-mailing large document files. With ZipBack Pro you have several ways to select files for compression: You can drag and drop files from Microsoft Explorer to the ZipBack Pro main window; you can browse and search directories from within the main window using file extension filters and click on the files; or you can use the Explorer "Send to" option.

This 32-bit application lets you create individual ZIP files and use a maximal compression rate, options that other ZIP tools often don't include. Another useful feature of ZipBack Pro is that it lets you send a newly created ZIP file directly to your mail system, then select a template for the message subject and text that accompanies it. This eliminates any extra work in e-mailing ZIP files. It is also possible to run this ZipMail function directly from the Start menu and to send any other types of files.

Accompanying ZipBack Pro are a range of other tools such as ones that let you determine byte size counts or redate files, which I found not too important for everyday tasks. The program's big strengths, however, are its close integration with Windows and its clear, easy-to-understand structure.
