ArticlesHow to Choose a CBR Tool

September 1997 / International Features / Corporate Memories / How to Choose a CBR Tool

Platform compatibility: Make sure the tool runs on all platforms in your company. Many lower-priced systems are limited to one or two platforms.

Representation: Systems have different case representations (e.g., nested, flat values having many variables, or hierarchical). Analyzing case representation can hel p you understand how accurately the system will work and how easy it is to maintain.

Retrieval: Look for systems with sophisticated case-retrieval algorithms. Just "nearest-neighbor" retrieval is not sufficient.

Adaptation: Low-priced systems usually do not provide case adaptation. That's why it pays to c hoose a more expensive tool with a range of adaptation techniques.

Type of interface: This is the most important attribute for the acceptance of the tool. You cannot customize some tools to your application environment; some don't offer GUIs.
