Polycom's new ShowStation IP ($12,999) projector extends the capabilities of an overhead projector to include remote participants with remote collaboration faculties. An XGA-resolution color camera sends color images to a remote site, and meeting participants can use the unit's electronic pen to write, draw, or erase on the projector's display, just as you would with an overhead transparency. The unit can read Microsoft Office 97 files, letting you load and store presentations from the ShowStation IP's floppy drive. The unit can host up to 10 sites without requiring an additional bridging service and supports group video
conferencing systems such as Polycom's ViewStation, which is a videoconferencing system that includes a Web server for remote presentations and diagnostics, s
etup, and configuration. A voice-tracking camera tracks to the person speaking. The ViewStation ($5999) supports auto-ISDN setup and provides 30-fps video.

is
theoretical--and no language better exemplifies this than C++.
