ArticlesRough-and-Tough Servers

February 1998 / What's New / Rough-and-Tough Servers

The Ruffian/HA ($28,995) is not only among the fastest Windows NT servers on the market but, the manufacturer claims, has no single point of failure. It supports the Alpha 21164 microprocessor at 600 MHz and provides redundancy and automatic switch-over capabilities with OctopusHA+ mirroring software from the Qualix Group. Configured in two side-by-side tower or rack-mounted chassis, each unit comes with two motherboards with six PCI slots, six DIMM sockets, and 2 MB of fast synchronous cache memory; dual power supplies; six 4-GB Ultra Wide disk drives with hot-swappable containers; dual RAID controllers; and dual 10/100 Ethernet controllers.
