Heitml (pronounced "Hi-TML") extends the functionality of HTML through the use of user-definable tags and programming features. This enables dynamic content and database applications without CGI or other scripting or programming languages. Heitml runs on a Web server and dynamically generates HTML.

Heitml, short for extended interactive HTML, is both a Web database interface and an extended markup language that eliminates cumbersome CGI and Perl scripting or ISAPI programming. By providing powerful tag libraries, it shields Web-site developers from complex server processes, such as scrolling databases or handling mail forms.

Heitml stores the values of variables from one page to anot her, which makes it easy to keep track of user requests during an entire session. This makes Heitml suitable for building complete on-line shopping applications. Because performance is a critical issue with such applications, the package integrates with the ISAPI interface, which means that the system is directly linked to Microsoft's Internet Information Server. Under Unix, Heitml can be linked directly to Apache. Other Web servers are supported via CGI.

Heitml's syntax resembles HTML but is extensible and lets you create your own tags. Advanced programmers can use Heitml like a procedural programming language to create comprehensive tag libraries. This approach makes Heitml suitable for HTML newcomers and professional programmers alike.
