ArticlesBenefits of Componentized ERP

May 1998 / International Features / Mission-Critical Components / Benefits of Componentized ERP

Updates: Component-based technology provides companies with a reliable means of implementing new functionalities smoothly and quickly. New components can work with existing components in an integrated solution. Only parts of a solution need to be transferred to a new release.

Maintenance: You can reconfigure existing solutions flexibly and dynamically. For example, developers can replace a software component with a new version without having to ad apt the other components. You can also easily expand component-based solutions to take account o f customer-specific functionality. In addition, interfaces to prefabricated components make access to third-party components much easier.

Openness: Business components capitalize on industry standards even across system boundaries. This is a key requirement for close coupling of Web-commerce applications and internal business processes.

Separation of Business and Technology Layer: Components can represent business entities. This allows the communications technology between objects to evolve and new technologies to be used within an object without the need to change the business process. This architecture separates the "how" (implementation details) from the "what" (business semantics).
