Evolution Robotics is shipping ERSP 3.0 and the ERSP Scorpion robot, a robotic development platform for creating robotics products or adding autonomous robotic functionality to existing products. Enhancements include the vSLAM autonomous navigation functionality, allowing robotic devices to move safely and freely in any environment with full knowledge of their location and programmed destination; improved APIs providing deeper access to the vision algorithm that drives object recognition and much of the navigation components; improved documentation; and upgraded graphical development tools.

Transcend's new palm-sized Wireless JetFlash combines a USB Flash Drive with an IEEE 802.11b Wireless LAN function. With the WLAN function, you can surf the Internet freely from a wireless network and simultaneously transfer data between the computer and the JetFlash itself. Two integrated internal antennas and Direct Sequence Spread Spectrum (DSSS) technology provides a stable wireless connection; two LED lights signal the JetFlash's usage status; and 64-bit or 128-bit WEP encryption is supported.

Crucial Technology, a division of Micron, is now offering PC2-3200 (DDR2-400) and PC2-4300 (DDR2-533) synchronous DRAM (SDRAM) modules. DDR2 is the next evolution in DDR memory technology and features advancements in voltage, density, and design to achieve speeds beyond the bus speed limitation of current DDR, along with a lower operating voltage of only 1.8 volts. Unlike current DDR, DDR2 is packaged using only Ball Grid Array (BGA), resulting in smaller packaging and better electrical performance. On-die termination gives DDR2 chips the ability to perform signal termination internally instead of on the motherboard.<>

The Best of BYTE: Volume 2 - Heuristic Algorithms
In this volume of Best of BYTE, we explore the emergence of some heuristic algorithms. Although we have only scratched the surface of this intriguing subject, we hope we've suggested the potential of the synthesis of heuristics and algorithms.
