Seagate Pocket 5 GB Hard Drive
Once you've said the name, what's left to say? This is a nifty little pocket drive. It connects to any USB port, runs USB 2.0 if that's available, and holds 5 gigabytes of data and programs and configuration files. It's probably not as rugged as a solid state thumb drive: there's metal spinning at 3600 RPM in there. On the other hand, it's not particularly delicate either, and I don't hesitate to carry it around in a pocket.
It folds up into a small disk shape a bit larger than a thumb drive, with all cables tucked safely inside. To use it, rotate the drive inside its cover and insert the USB cable. That's it. When the disk is in use there's a blue light in the center.

The Pocket Drive comes with software to let you make it into a boot device. You can also make partitions, each one protected by a user name and password. The Seagate tool kit is complete and easy to install: There's a CD, as well as some information already on the drive. The Pocket Drive will work with PC or Mac, I've seen street prices as low as $150 and as high as $190, and it is just plain nifty. Recommended.
Hate Spam? Boycott MCI
MCI is a spam-friendly ISP. For details, go here. It's pretty clear that MCI knows what is going on, but finds it profitable to pretend there are important policy issues at stake. It's also possible that a concerted attack on their other sources of income will focus their minds something wonderful.
Spam is destroying the Internet as we know it.
